Last night, I saw the best production of King Lear that I have ever seen. It is on at The Almeida Theatre in Islington. First off, what a great theatre!
Danny Sapani as Lear was absolutely superb. But the whole production was. Clarke Peters sublime as the Fool. Two old comrades of mine, Faith Omole (Ideal Husband.. My sister!) and Geoffrey Lumb (Mirror and The Light) were bloody marvellous, but I would expect nothing less. They are both terrific actors. But the ensemble just burst my heart. Beautiful work, sustained concentration throughout 3 1/2 hours and delicate as could be. Wow. Yaël Farber is a fantastic director. Wow. Wowwww!!!
